COmeta is a research group within the Department of Design at Politecnico di Milano, composed of a network of professors, researchers, and professionals with a decade of multidisciplinary experience in the intersection of design and autism.
The research group originates from the ten-year experience of the homonymous Metadesign Laboratory in the second year of the School of Design, which aims to raise students’ awareness of the social utility of design, placing ethical and environmental issues at the core of the educational process.
This activity and the numerous projects carried out have led to the publication of the book “Design & Autism. An unconventional approach to inclusion through product innovation.” by Maggioli Editore.
The book explores the intersection of design and autism through an inclusive and multidisciplinary lens. It brings together diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and, above all, a rich collection of projects and ideas that highlight the social and cultural impact of design.
Just as autism is not a singular experience but a spectrum of identities, design should also be multifaceted, adaptable, and capable of reflecting diverse voices.
Personally, I supervised the development of the project and contributed with a chapter on the value of UX practices applied in an Inclusive Design context, demonstrating how, regardless of whether the output is digital or physical, these practices can inform and inspire designers by identifying tangible opportunity areas to address the needs of real, multidimensional people.
Save the date for the official launch event: April 2 at Politecnico di Milano, Piazza Leonardo da Vinci 32.
